Field Sobriety Tests
Drivers who are pulled over and are suspected of being drunk may be asked to take a sobriety test. There are a variety of tests an individual may be asked to complete, including field sobriety tests. Field sobriety tests require individuals to prove their sobriety through physical and verbal actions.
Unfortunately, field sobriety tests are far from objective, as a driver’s intoxication or sobriety is determined based on an officer’s judgment. If you were accused of drunk driving after taking a field sobriety test, contact the San Antonio DWI attorneys at the Law Offices of Chris S. Barnett today at 210-587-6464.
Types of Field Sobriety Tests
There are a number of field sobriety tests that a police officer may employ. An individual will be asked to step out of his or her vehicle to perform these tests. Some of the most common field sobriety tests include:
- Walking in a straight line
- Reciting the alphabet backwards
- Touching one’s finger to one’s nose
- Balancing on one foot
These tasks are designed to test an individual’s coordination and concentration. Intoxicated individuals usually have difficulty with both of these tasks, so failure to properly execute field sobriety tests may be used as evidence that an individual is too intoxicated to drive.

Since field sobriety tests are subjective, they may not be enough to prove that a driver is intoxicated. If you have been accused of DWI, contact the San Antonio drunk driving defense attorneys at the Law Offices of Chris S. Barnett at 210-587-6464 today.
