What Is the Punishment for a First-Time DWI Conviction?
If you are convicted of driving while intoxicated for the first time, you may face limited jail time in addition to fines and probation. Specifically, you may be sentenced to:
- At least three to six days in jail
- Up to $2000 in fines
- Up to 100 hours of community service
- Up to two years of probation
These are the standard punishments, but you may face additional penalties, usually as conditions of your probation. This may include alcohol abuse courses, alcohol abstinence, and ignition interlock. Additionally, your license may be suspended.
